Seattle

I will be in Seattle this weekend for Gay Romance Northwest, if anyone else will be there and wants to say hi. :)

I've been waffling over the decision for months and [personal profile] flamebyrd finally convinced me. :3

For those interested in nail polish, my favorite brand, Zoya is having a massive sale. With the code SCHOOL you can get a free nail polish for each polish that you buy, up to six freebies. Awesome!

It ends on August 25, so if you're going to take advantage, don't wait too long. :)

If you need a little inspiration, here are a couple of my more recent nails: )

Dear Anonymous commenters,

My journal screens Anonymous comments by default. If you want to actually get a reply from me, you're going to have to give me some form of contact information.

I'm never quite sure what to do with some of the comments I receive. I feel as though I ought to reply to them, but because they're anonymous there's not really any point since my replies wouldn't be seen anyway.

Vacation

Tomorrow I start my two-week vacation! \o/ It will be lovely. I'll be off to the Boise area to see Mom. Brother and his kids will also be there. My nephew apparently was so excited that I will be coming to visit that he offered up his room for me to stay in. :3 So cute.

Dez dropped by to borrow some camera stuff and helped me shove the big stuff in the car. Now I just have the little stuff, toiletries and munchies and stuff that I can't really pack until tomorrow morning when I leave. :) Former co-worker Howard gave me his number because he has friends all along my route that he can call in case I run into trouble somewhere. <3

Hopefully Mikey will remember to water my plants or they are going to be very dead by the time I get back with the massive heat wave we've been having. Poor plants.

Caught up with an old friend from like twelve years ago this week. It's been really nice. Thank goodness for people who never change their email addresses. ^^;

Nail polish this week is very holiday themed. )

I am festive! \o/ I also packed nail polish to take with me, so I can do Mom's nails. :)

Contemplating Butter London Black Knight with fireworks painted over it, if I have the patience. Brushwork is a pain on such a tiny canvas. We'll see. :3
tygati: (Default)
One more week until vacation. I can't wait. Two weeks of not thinking about work. Plus, it'll be my birthday, and fireworks day, and I get to see my family. Apparently my niece and nephew are already stoked about this. Given how little I've been around them, I'm a bit baffled. :3 Kids.

Dez finally wasn't too sick to come over, so nail polish happened. )

Despite the fact that my birthday is only a week and a half away, I've been on a bit of an ebay kick scrounging up Rainbow Brite goodies. Mostly records, because I have a fondness for records, but a few other random things. There is a lot of nifty stuff out there, but I'm getting really tired of snipers. *grump* I suppose it's better for my budget, but it still makes me irritable.

As a result of my nostalgia trip, I epoxy'd Glimmer (She-Ra) back together and gave her a bath, as well as carefully epoxy-sculpted tabs back onto the doors of the Crystal Castle. Now it looks almost complete, aside from the one window that I lost long ago.

Oh yes, also, there is a Baby Seapony living in the toothbrush holder in our bathroom.

My house, it is not normal. <3
tygati: (Default)
So I'm a couple of weeks behind. :3

Nail polish x5 )

In dolly news I finally painted Tiny Kaith. Now I just have to acquire a wig that's the right color AND fits his melon-head. x_x

Fred Meyer had avocados on sale. They were very yummy. For some unfathomable reason my niece and nephew don't like avocados. I cannot comprehend this. o.o

Going to go visit my mother in Boise for the first two weeks of July. Should be interesting. She tried to convince me that I should haul a bike all the way there and back. I told her she was crazy.

... I keep having the feeling that there's something I'm forgetting to do, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. >.>;;

Mild spoilers for The Hobbit, if you haven't seen it, but I found a hilarious article on the practicality of Radagast the Brown's bunny-powered sled.

Leo Major

Occasionally I see an interesting thing on Tumblr and decide to research it further. It's kind of like going on a random Wikipedia binge, with a few more clicks involved. Today I would like to share with you Leo Major, a WWII soldier who was blinded in one eye and kept on going because he "only needed his right eye to look down the sights of his rifle."

And, okay, the Wikipedia article is fascinating in and of itself, until Cracked gets involved, and I was laughing sooo hard. <3

You go guy. Who the hell needs Rambo with Leo Major on the loose?
tygati: (Default)
Found out who got the promotion I wanted. He 1) has a dick, 2) is a brown-noser, and 3) is a Yes-man. None of which apply to me. :P

All I have ever wanted out of a job was to be happy and not dread going to work. I want to work for a company I can be proud of, who inspires me to put forth extra effort. Terry (co-worker) thinks I need to find a small Mom n' Pop business who will appreciate my drive to try to make things better.

With the situation at work and the way my allergies are trying to asphyxiate me this year, I'm giving serious thought to drifting back to Idaho and giving up on Oregon. The property taxes are way lower, the houses are better priced, and there aren't any lunatic hippies. I was convinced I was firmly a Liberal until I moved here and learned what a real Liberal is. x_x

The problem is that I have friends here, and I don't make friends easily. Mikey is willing to consider a move, considering he's been similarly cockblocked in his efforts at promotion as well, but... The first couple years of living here were pretty lonely. I don't know if I can do that again.

Bleah. x_x

On an entirely unrelated note, [personal profile] maderr and [personal profile] fyredancer are going to attend Gay Romance Northwest Meet-up in Seattle, September 14. I'm trying to decide if I should go, since I'm not really an official author of anything, and it's a pretty long drive, but I'd really, really like to finally get to meet Maderr...

Is anyone else planning on going?

Lastly, on the nail polish front... )
Trying to decide what I want to do next. Pondering orange and pink a la Barbie but I don't think I would be able to tolerate it for more than a couple of days. ^^; Ponder ponder.
tygati: (Leon: Who let Sora near the computer?)
Didn't get the promotion. I'm too smart. They're afraid I'll get bored. What a slap in the face.

I had a whole post typed up since I'm two weeks behind but Semagic ate it and I'm very not in the mood to retype it all. Therefore, you get links.

Monday the 13th Dez and I went to Salem for nail polish and bread. She posted pictures.

This Monday we went on a baking spree. I made cheesecake. It was divine.

And of course there is always nail polish. )

Now I'm going to go back to hunting for childhood crap on ebay.
tygati: (Default)
Stumbled across this on Tumblr: Inglot Cosmetics O2M Nail Enamel which allows moisture and oxygen to pass through the polish, thus allowing Islamic women to fulfill their religious requirements and still have pretty colored nails. <3

I wonder if our friend in Corvallis knows about this...
tygati: (Default)
My thoughts are all disjointed and I hardly know where to start. I suppose I'll start with nail polish since pictures are easier than words. )

So on Monday Dez and I got together with our friend Gnome for a "warm weather at last!" barbeque. I set up the badmitton net (by myself and while on the phone with Mom, much to her amusement) before Gnome showed up with munchies and Dez showed up with her mom who played several rounds of badmitton with me. <3 It was awesome. Dez, Gnome and I played croquet after lunch, which was cheezeburgers made from Rick's recipe. Mmm, yummy.

I didn't get my camera out, but Dez had hers and I 'borrowed' it to take a bunch of pictures which Dez has not yet sent to me. *hint hint*

On the work front, I apparently passed my interview because I got asked to take an 'assessment' today which, wow, I have not had to do that much algebra since high school, or that many fractions since junior high! @_@ I feel like getting my Calc book out of the closet since I am clearly very rusty. I suppose I'll find out next week how I did. There were apparently nine applicants, which makes me think my chances are questionable, but everyone who knows me/works with me seems to be pretty sure I'll get it. I wish I could be that optimistic, but in truth, I'm petrified. >_<

Oh, Tumblrs!

I've been amusing myself with Tumblr. I actually have three. ^^; tygati, of course, which is mostly landscapes and random interesting things, Doll Vs Camera which is where I'm stashing doll pictures, and Child of the Rainbow Brite Era which is exactly what it says. Rainbow Brite, Jem, She-Ra, Barbie, My Little Pony and whatever else I think of to screencap. :) I've been having a blast making animated gifs of things. I think next up I'll slow-mo screencap Firefly crashing into that dragon. ^.^

I also keep wanting to slash various characters. It's kind of amusing, looking back at these things with the eye of an adult. Tirek and Scorpan, Mr Moochick and his rabbit, Firefly and Melody... yeah. <3
tygati: (Default)
Wow. So. On Monday, I submitted my application for the position of Purchasing Agent at work. Essentially, this is one of the people who make sure that the store has adequate amounts of product to sell. Since it's very mathematically-based, it has always appealed to me. However, in recent months, I've been somewhat of a thorn in the side of management and I honestly was expecting to be told "Yeah, no." right off the bat. Instead, I have an interview scheduled for Friday. @__@ So now I'm nervous. Gah.

In less nerve-wracking news, nail polish. )

I've also been on a Barbie movie marathon, since Mikey took it upon himself to finish my collection. I now have all of them except for the Christmas specials and the dumb high school crap. So, all of the Fairy Tale Princess movies. ^__^

The Barbie shelf. <3 Sort of in chronological order, except for the Fairytopia movies which are all grouped together.

My favorite Barbie movies, in no particular order:
Barbie as Rapunzel
Barbie: Fairytopia
Barbie as the Island Princess
Barbie in a Mermaid Tale
Barbie: Princess Charm School
Barbie Mariposa

Probably because they have the best storylines. Or at least, the ones that make me itch to write. *laugh*

Now I'm going to go hang a hose on a wall. Wish me luck!

P.S. Yes, Barbie is still a lesbian. <3
tygati: (Default)
Bring on Summer! I am so beyond ready.

I needed some COLOR in my life, so I did a five-color ombre rainbow. <3 China Glaze, because they seem to be more fond of neon colors than my usual favorite brands. I've been getting mad props on them at work, from customers and co-workers alike. ^.^

Monday, as I mentioned in my last post, Dez and crew tackled the jungle masquerading as a lawn. I should get a comparison picture with my neighbor's lawn because wow is that ever mind-boggling now that Dez's mom has tamed the greenery.

Wednesday, after work, I started poking at the garage to see what it would take to get it into shape. I ended up assembling this five-shelf 2500lb steel rack that I'd bought months ago and clearing up the back corner of all the doll boxes. >.> There are a lot. ^^;; I still have another rack to assemble, but I needed to get enough room to work in, so I've been buying stuff to aid in that endeavor. I got a hook rack to hang up the rake, broom, and shovel, and a set of heavy duty hooks to hang up the two weedwhackers. Today I got a hose hanger, but I forgot to get the screws so that has to be delayed.

Yesterday I raked up the dead grass on the front lawn and sprayed it with weed killer, because as it stands our lawn is about 50-50 weeds-to-grass. x_x So, yeah. The back lawn is still mostly fine, because I've hit it up several times, but the front lawn is shared with the neighbor and I keep wishfully thinking that she'll actually do her part to keep it up. Which she won't.

I also re-caulked the bathtub, because Mikey's out of town so that gave me enough time to do it and let it dry. That was rather miserable. And also resulted in the ugliest caulking job ever. But on the up side, it shouldn't leak again! ... ever. ^^;

And I still had time before my training class, so I re-potted my suicidal Jade plant that kept falling over (sucker's in a ceramic pot now, no way that thing's tipping) and gave its pot to the mother-in-law's-tongue which was getting rootbound. Then I potted a bunch of tulip bulbs that I'd bought last fall and forgotten about, only to discover that they decided to sprout... in the packaging! @_@ Crazy plants.

And finally, to go with my cute patio table and chairs, I got a patio umbrella! <3

It matches the green cushions I got for the ancient redwood lawn chairs Mom gave me. A few more things and I should be just about ready for Summer. ^___^

Oh, and that used-to-be-red-but-faded-to-pink pot? That's the sumac I thought I killed but that thing is still bravely hanging in there! Go Fight Win! You can do it little sumac! Liiiiiiive!

Spring

tygati: (Default)
Let's see. Spring seems to have finally shown its face. We've been flirting in the 65-69 range this past week, supposedly going to get a little over 70 in the week to come. It's about time. Hopefully it'll improve my mood so I'm not so tetchy.

Last week when [personal profile] amatsubu came over, I went a little crazy doing her nails... )

Today Dez's mom mowed the lawn while Dez and I played with the weedwhacker and blower. Then I put together my little patio table and chairs set which is super cute and we're going to have to have a picnic/BBQ next week. <3 Hopefully we can play badmitton too, if I can figure out where in the depths of the garage my set is. >.>;

Then after they left for puppy class, I vacuumed. Still need to do the stairs, but it looks so much better.

Now I'm just watching John Carter and trying to convince myself not to buy new nail polish. x_x

Dear Spider,

I would like you to know that, for an arachnophobe, I am incredibly tolerant of your species. I acknowledge that you provide a useful service, and as such, should be given the benefit of the doubt whenever possible.

However.

Sneaking up on me while I'm taking a shower is a big no-no. It's right up there with sneaking up on me while I'm in bed. Absolutely not a good idea. I would advise you to spread the word among your brethren to ensure that this doesn't happen again but, considering I sprayed you with bleach, I don't think you'll be doing much of anything in the near future.

Good luck in your next life; try to spend it more wisely.

No love,
Me

21 Tips

Oh bother, I forgot to post this with the big post. Oh well.

London posted this a couple of days ago and I thought it really ought to be shared.

21 Tips to Keep Your Shit Together When You're Depressed

It's a good list, especially if you have family or friends who suffer, or if it's you yourself. Over the years I've learned to isolate myself when I go through a downswing, but for some people that's not always possible. So.

Update

Apr. 15th, 2013 09:46 am
tygati: (Default)
It's been a long week. I'm tired, and slightly cranky. I'm blaming the weather, because it's currently 40 degrees and we're not supposed to break out of the 50s all week long. *grump grump*
I want to go up to Salem to visit Ulta and see Talya, but I'm not going anywhere that doesn't have adequate heating until the weather warms up. Likewise, I want to go see Gnome again up in Albany, but seeing Gnome requires giving her warning so she can tidy up a bit and she's 72ish and the weather is as hard on her as it is on me, albeit for different reasons.
So, I'm grumpy, because I want to visit and I can't because my stupid body takes any change in temperature as an attack upon itself and goes into shutdown mode. >_< I had to go to a company meeting last night and wore my medium jacket instead of my heavy down jacket and I had to sit in the car with the heater cranked for a couple of minutes before my muscles unlocked enough for me to drive home again. *siiigh*
Most days I can put up with the Raynaud's. Dress warmly, regardless of the funny looks you get from people. Wear gloves, indoors. Pay the extorbant electric bill, despite roomie's grumping. But just once I would like to feel like a normal person and not a freak of nature. :/ If I go from a warm indoor setting to a cooler outdoor setting, I may set it off. That happened earlier in the week, and the difference was maybe 10-15 degrees tops. Right now, it's 68 indoors and I won't turn the heater off until it hits 72 or else I can't type due to the stiffness in my hands. I keep having to stop and stick them under my arms to warm them up enough to continue.

Blah. Sorry for the rant. x_x

Happier news, let's see. Nail polish!

The first part of the week was NailNation 3000's Max-A-Million... )

For those like me with sensitivities, scented nail polish is an absolute no-go. I picked up a Ludurana holo with my Llarowe order because it was such a pretty lavender color, but I absolutely couldn't stand the awful smell. I gave it to a co-worker who loves it. :3

Oh, and here's a silly picture. ^_^

Tiny Kaith and Tiny Kiyam with my oldest Barbie doll, whom I have been informed is "Fashion Queen Barbie" from the early 1960s. She was my mother's, and then mine, and the poor girl is in desperate need of a cleaning but still in pretty good condition all things considered. :) She comes with three wigs of different colors to change her look, and I still have them all, in somewhat questionable condition. ^^; Heh.
Her outfit is also 1960s, but apparently not her original. I also have an equally-ancient Ken doll, although this one isn't Ken-Ken, but Alan, a friend-doll of some sort. He has a Knight costume which is awesome, if in need of some slight repair.

Maybe I'll go see about giving them a bath while I'm waiting for Dez to come visit.

Story bits

Apr. 8th, 2013 03:44 pm
tygati: (Default)
[personal profile] amatsubu said something which sparked the long-dormant muses, and I've been poking on and off at various scenes of this. I haven't got much in the way of a coherent plot, but I'm working on it.

Some of the characters are not mine, they're [personal profile] amatsubu's. I'm just having my nefarious way with them. :)

Bits of a story yet to be defined. )
tygati: (Thumbelina and Cornelius dancing)
I'm going to end up cutting most of this post due to the pictures. :3

I will, however, spam you with one pic.

Bunny cake! Terry, one of my co-workers, made this awesome bunny cake for me. <3 The world needs more men who can bake.

In nail polish news, you get two pictures today. )

Dezzie's coming over today so I'll be redoing both of our nails. Not sure yet what I'm going to do... maybe try out some of the Llarowe order. She and I have been pondering driving up to Salem to camp out at Ulta for an hour or three and drool over all the nail polishes (Seriously, ask [personal profile] fyredancer, that place is like a department store of nothing but beauty products. Rows upon rows of nail polish! *_*) but after splurging on the Butter London and Llarowe orders I'm trying to be good for at least a week. Or two. :3

And going back to dolly news... )

If it ever stops raining, I might even paint him. >.>;

... I could have sworn I had more pictures of stuff. Huh. Oh well.
