I swear, women are our own worst enemy. -_- I got a phone call at work today, and after I answered there was a slight pause followed by: "Don't take this the wrong way, but can I talk to a man?"

She hung up on me after I told her I was the only one in Electrical at that time. :P

I mean, honestly, I rarely have this problem with men. They may start off asking if I know anything, but at least they give me a chance to prove that I do know exactly what I'm talking about. Hell, I've had two contractors now tell me that the economy was better they'd gleefully try to poach me to come work for them. So why is it that women automatically assume that I can't possibly know what I'm doing?

*grump*

In happier news, yesterday I got my Butter London order of The Black Knight, and today I picked up my Llarowe order with lots of shiny holographics. )

That's Ludurana Supremo Holographic, Ozotic 505, A England Saint George, Girly Bits Hocus Pocus, and NailNation 3000 Max-a-Million. I can blame [personal profile] fyredancer for the A England, but the Ozotic I've been lusting after for forever and Llarowe gives free shipping over $50. So. Yeah. >.> Nail polish. ^^;

Also newly arrived, but not nail polish, is a new doll. He's a Lumedoll Koit elf )

Poor guy is bald because he arrived early and his wig is still making its way over from China. :3 He's also borrowing pants for the same reason.

And in closing, this week's nails:

It's a bit of wishful thinking. It's been raining practically since I did them this way. *le sigh* I chipped it today, so it'll be coming off and I'll try one of the new polishes. Maybe one of the silvery ones, to match the grey stormclouds overhead. >.>;

Happy Easter!

I've never been religious, so my idea of celebrating was to paint bunny rabbits on my thumb nails and bounce around work all day chiming "Bunny!" to anyone who hadn't already fled. :) It's a good thing my co-workers are already convinced of my lack of sanity. ^__^

In prior nail polish news... )

One thing I noted while I was doing all the itty bitty flowers on the Easter nails was that I really appreciate how thick Zoya makes their polish. The China Glaze flower petals are kinda translucent, and usually needed two or three coats, while Zoya could be done in one. It's something to be aware of when you're layering, because if the polish you're using isn't fully solid, it looks strange over a base coat.

Catch-up

Wow I'm behind.

So, last week Dez and I went on our smartphone fact-finding mission, then wandered around the VRC mall because I wanted leggings that weren't 15+ years old. Found leggings, cute top, biker shorts, and chocolate truffles. Mmm, truffles. <3

This week we started out looking to see if there were any reasonable beauty supply stores in town to stifle my urge to drive to Salem to hit up Ulta. Sadly, everything was either closed, no longer in business, or staffed by stuck-up bitches. So we're just going to have to have a field trip to Salem.

While we were out we found Great Harvest Bread has a Eugene outlet, and still has the most omgyum fresh bread ever. And free samples. <3 Today I got a honey spelt, but I'm sending Dez back on Thursday for their apple-something-something deliciousness.

We also discovered that the other Asian market, the one way down in South Eugene that we never go to, has Koala's March! \o/ I am thrilled. Uwajimaya stopped carrying it and I haven't gotten to indulge in years. The rest of their offerings are more expensive, though they do have a broader selection. Still haven't remembered what I wanted to find sticky rice for...

Then we went back to the mall in an attempt to find pants that are long enough for me and my tallness. We found more chocolate, underwear, and a lone pair of jeans that I think will be suitable. I hope anyway. What I really want are colored jeans, but they just don't make such things for us tall people. :( Also, there was much eye-rolling when the salesperson decided I was a 6-8 instead of the 10-11 that I've worn for the last 15+ years. Somewhere along the line someone decided to adjust all the sizing to make body-conscious women feel better about themselves, clearly. I guess the idea is to flatter you and make you think you're a size smaller so you'll buy more clothes rather than encourage you to put in a little effort and drop a few pounds? Ah, society.

On the way home we stopped at the little mexican restaurant that I drive by every day but have never eaten at before. Turns out they have excellent food and amazingly speedy service. We'll be going back to that one again at a future date. ^_^

And also, in nail polish news... )

I thought I had something else to say... I'm sure I'll think of it in the middle of the night. >.>

Argh. I cannot for the life of me figure out why LT3 download links always crash Firefox. I can get them on the second go, after I've restarted it, but the very first click of that link and down it goes. x_x Vexing.

SmartPhone

During yesterday's outing, [personal profile] amatsubu and I stopped by AT&T and T-Mobile to look at smartphones. Now, I am one of those people who hangs onto something until it falls into dust rather than continually upgrading to the newest and greatest thing. My cell phone is 6+ years old, and the one before that was of similar age when it finally decided not to turn on anymore. This is often a matter of stubborn pride for me, but increasingly I've been feeling disconnected from the world at large. I see all my co-workers checking this or that on their breaks, I come home from work to find pages worth of Twittering from my friends, and I find myself wondering... am I missing something? Should I finally join the rest of the 21st century?

Obviously, the biggest downside is cost. Based on what we learned yesterday, getting a smartphone would slightly more than double my monthly bill. My current plan is one that is no longer offered, and the closest equivilent they have is their Senor Citizen plan. :P I use my phone once or twice a week to call my mother and grandmother, and don't text at all. Occasionally I tell people that I am the most boring person on the planet.

So, the question is... is it worth it?

I don't know, so I thought I'd get input from the rest of the world. :3

I've never been much of a fanfic writer, for various reasons, but occasionally something crops up and it's such an obscure fandom that I find myself idly contemplating giving it a spin just so I can have the stories that I want to read. But at the same time, the whole point of fanfiction is to enjoy stories about characters you love, so stories in an extremely obscure fandom oftentimes defeat the purpose.

I mean, if I gave into the impulse and jotted something down after the Castlevania spree that [personal profile] amatsubu graciously provided commentary for (^_^) would anyone have a clue who the characters even were if they read it?

Le sigh.

So, Sunday morning I get in to work and Kathy is hunting around for rubber gloves because a bird flew into the big front entrance windows and stunned itself and she wants to move it outside where it belongs. Apparently, it's the second bird that morning. (They like to sneak into the store to eat the bird seed sold in Garden and then can't find their way back outside) Shortly thereafter she gives up trying to pick it up because said bird has an inch-long beak and she's not going to risk it. Me being me, I wander over to look at the dazed and confused birdbrain. Yup, inch-long beak. I decide to gently prod birdy toward the doors with my shoe. Birdy takes this as an invitation.

Me: .... well, that works.

Brian: Hold still. *snaps picture*

Me: *awkwardly scoots out the door and attempts to shoo birdy off into some of the plants for sale*

Birdy: *aint moving*

Me: ..... *nudgeprods with other shoe until birdy dismounts*

Brian: We dub you the Bird Whisperer.

Kathy: *laughing helplessly in the background*

Yeah, that's how my morning went. :3

What's really funny is that the whole time I'm remembering my childhood where every year or so an idiot woodpecker would mistake our wood stove chimney for a tree and fly down inside it and have to be rescued. And by rescued I mean take half the stove pipe apart in order to get to the very sooty and pissed-off bird. Good times. Mom still has a picture of me doing this in my underwear in order to not get my clothes all sooty. ^^;;

And in nail-polish news... )

Today Dez is coming over and we're... going to do whatever. ^^; And maybe stop by the grocery store because I need more tea.

... yes, more. Shh.

Ah, cats. The whole site is awesome, but this one I think is my favorite.

So far. ^.^

Here's A few other good ones.

And then, in nail polish news...

No, Barnes & Noble still hasn't done anything about the book theft. :/ I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to buy it, with the negative reviews you guys have been leaving <3 but it's still annoying. This person stole one of [profile] sashalmiller's stories too, as well as that of the girl who first let me know about it. Some people. :(

In happier news, nail polish! \o/

I chipped the stripes on Friday, so I did a quick pre-Valentine pink and purple mix.

Colors used were: Sally Girl 812149, Zoya ZP480 Katy, ORLY 40466 Oh Cabana Boy, Nina 709223 Boys 'n' Berries, Sally Girl 812011, and ORLY 40012 Love Each Other. @_@ Of course, three of those are glitter topcoats. ^^;

Then on Sunday I broke a nail at work (honestly, I'm surprised it hadn't happened sooner) so I cut them all short again and did the Valentine blend I'd had in mind. Hopefully it will last until V-day. >.>

Colors used were: ORLY 40466 Oh Cabana Boy, Zoya ZP480 Katy, Sally Girl 812084, Zoya ZP485 Ginessa, Butter London Frilly Knickers, ORLY 40012 Love Each Other. Only two of those are glitter topcoats this time. :3 I was going to use one more glitter layer (red!) but I realized belatedly that it had a black base and wasn't going to work right with the sugar-candy look I had going. ^^;

And for those in the 'States, Sally Beauty Supply is doing a free ORLY with $3 purchase (Coupon number 555105) until Monday, so that's a nice deal. ORLY is the pretty hot-pink I've used a few times, and I tend to put Love Each Other over everything since it's basically just a faint lavender shimmer. <3

My family's very first computer, such as it was, was an old TI99 from the days before DOS was invented. :3 Mostly, my mother used it to manage her finances, but we also owned two games which were played on cartridges. (This was also before the invention of hard drives)

One of those games was the now-legendary Space Invaders, which I think everyone on the planet has played a variation of at some point in time. My personal favorite, however, was Hunt the Wumpus. Every couple of years I'd check to see if someone had ported it to a modern system, and finally someone has!

It's part strategy, part guesswork, and part swear-words. ;) Beware the slime pits.

Oh, and if anyone's curious, the intro music (which has haunted me for twenty years) is Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg.
(Also recorded by Apocalyptica on their Cult album, which is what I've had playing in the background. :)

Mikey: Ooh, pretty! What is that?
Me: Tumblr.
Mikey: .... I usually use Tumblr for porn.
Me: It has pretty landscapes.
Mikey: It has pretty penises too.

Tumblr

I figured out Tumblr! Well, sort of. Tumblr hates Firefox for some reason, so I have to load it in Chrome. -__- But I've been amusing myself by posing handfuls of nature-is-pretty photographs that I've taken over the years.
Not sure what I'm going to do once I run out of pictures to post... go out and take more, I guess!
tygati: (Default)
For the record, I have not and will not ever publish under another name. I actually had that conversation with [personal profile] maderr since a lot of LT3 authors have reverted to using their real names or more formal-sounding pen names, but that's not my style. I have never used my legal name online, nor will I. I don't like it, it's not me, it's just that thing I have to use to navigate the Real World. My name, the one that my friends call me, is Kitty. That's who I am.

So, if anyone ever stumbles across one of my books with anything other than "Tygati" attached to them, it's not me.

...

In more cheerful news, nail polish!

This is Zoya ZP485 Ginessa, China Glaze 684 Frostbite, and China Glaze 1009 In The Lime Light over a white base coat. Considering it's my first attempt at painting stripes, I consider it not too bad. I am clearly right handed, and it shows, but fortunately I work with a bunch of guys who can't tell the difference. Score! \o/

Today [personal profile] amatsubu came over so I painted her nails too! ^__^ Spaaarkly. Then we got food and puzzles and random stuff. ^.^ Oh, and socks, because I constantly need new socks. :3 I wear holes in them very quickly, alas. Side-effect of being on my feet all day.

There was also cheesecake, because... cheeeeeesecake.... <3
tygati: (Stitch "?")
I feel sick. I just got a message informing me that someone has stolen The Dragon Isles and put it up on Barnes & Noble with a shitty cover as a Nook book. WTF? Who the hell does something like that?

I've reported it, but still... :(

Jem Pink

I fail at taking pictures of myself. I've done glittery gold and two-tone purple since my last post, and neglected to get pictures of either.

I did, however, get the current one, which I am deeming Glitter N' Gold Jem. ;)

This is ORLY 40466 Oh Cabana Boy, which I tend to refer to as Jem and the Holograms Pink for obvious reasons. :3 It has two sparkle layers overtop of it, Nina Ultra Pro 709241 Holographic Topcoat and ORLY 40012 Love Each Other.

... and now I have lost time on Youtube following Jem links. My bad. :3
tygati: (Thumbelina and Cornelius dancing)
Years ago, I gave up on wearing nail polish due to what I thought was a psychosomatic reaction to the weight of it on my hands. This made me very sad, as I've always loved my nails. Then, in a discussion with Talya [personal profile] fyredancer, I learned of a concept called "three free" where nail polishes are made without three known toxic elements: Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde and Toluene. So I decided to give one of those brands a try, and voila, no reaction. Not psychosomatic at all, but an allergic reaction!

Sooo... I may have splurged just a little bit. :3

This is Zoya Zuza ZP625, with a Zoya Charla ZP508 gradient at the base and Essence 10 Glorious Aquarius overtop. I feel like a very sparkly mermaid. ^__^
tygati: (Default)
So, I've been reading Not Always Right for the last couple of days, and there have been some real doozies on there, including one that made me tear up, but I simply had to share the sheer hilarious WTF of "Bye bye, unicorns!" with you. :3
tygati: (Leon: Who let Sora near the computer?)
I just got asked if I was old enough to vote.

... I'm thirty-one. -__-

A story that stalled on me. I think my ambitions were too grand, alas.
