Package day!

Today was package day!

So, mailman rings the bell while I'm getting ready for work. Had to sign for a package... from Spain! Oooh.

The first one I opened, though, was from Rappleart. <3



A tiny beaded Rain! ^__^ Who is attempting to mack on Sculpey-Hyacinth while Sculpey-Rain watches and wonders wtf is going on. ^.~


Second package was the Spain package. <3





DreamingDoll Doha head. Jury's still out on whether I keep the faceup he came with or do my own. I may let Mikey play with this guy. I like the fact that he has changeable ears, and really, it's why I got him at all, but his head is BIG and heavy and so he takes size 9-10 wigs... only the red one is size 9-10. The rest of Tian's wigs are 8-9. >.>

The eyes he's wearing are my 20mm silicone rainbow ones, which are technically too big (acrylic 20mm won't fit at all, and he does look nice in my 18mm gold ones) but the silicone ones stick without needing to use eye putty so that's what he has for the time being. ^^;

I am a sticker fiend. Yus. Back when I was little I had books and books worth of stickers. Now, I just stick them all over stuff that I mail out. ^^;

... still trying to decide if the chopsticks are for eating or wearing... >.>

Tomorrow is Inventory at work. Yesterday I put in a 13 hour day (I was scheduled 9), today I closed, and tomorrow I open. x.x Ugh. I am zombie at 6:30 in the bloody A.M. Wish me luck.

'Hippocampus' ...I know that word. I don't remember, I shall have to look it up. That picture just does not look right though, that is not a creature that would be at home in any environment.

Yes and no? The hippocampus (or hippocampi for those species with two) is part of the brain, but Wikipedia claims the name was derived from the Greek word for seahorse 'hippos = horse, kampos = sea monster', so maybe?

Most of the hits I got were medical ones, plus one or two seahorse pages and one image of a mer-horse that looks a lot like the one on the sticker book, it's better proportioned though and so looks slightly less ridiculous and impossible. I stand by my previous statement though, that is a creature that would have a great deal of difficulty moving around with any speed or agility.

Hippocampus is Latin for "water horse." It's also the scientific name for seahorses and for a part of the brain that resembles a seahorse. I think the mer-unicorn thing comes from the fact that in Medieval times they believed everything on land had a counterpart in the water. So you literally had sea-horses, sea-lions, sea-unicorns, etc. I don't know if there's one true word for what they're called though.

wow, I should update my Latin vocab, seeing as I mainly know how to kill someone or sleep with them (oh the things you translate in class...)

And my Latin dictionary has no such word in it... I shall consult other sources, because now I'm really interested...

I checked dictionary.com and found out that it is Latinized Greek. So the original root of the word is Greek. Oops. ^^;

Um, if I remember correctly it was a steed of Poseidon, and yes, was a sea horse, and the mythology is Greek.

I am an immense sucker for mythology.
Part of the reason I have a thing for Tolkien (the way other people have a thing for life), and love tygati's references to myths.

I've been ill three times in a row, and then I've been really busy in RL, I'm really sorry that I've missed out on so many things. As to the Chinese, I synpathize. Slogging through a language which basically requires memorization is horrifying. If you can scan or take a picture of the Chinese in question on the package, I might be able to figure out what went wrong.
As to the dragon, I DEFINITELY still want it. :) It's okay that the package is delayed, the fact that you went to the trouble to make it for me is already more than enough.

If I gave him different colored hair then the faceup would be nice, but it doesnt' go with the red hair at all. Hmm.

Tian isn't sharing. Tian is... special. I don't really mind if the others have to share, but Tian is my baby. ^^; *is a dork*

Awww, poor Tygs. *big hug* Think of all the doll accessories you can buy with the extra money, though! See there always a silver lining... right?... of course... ^^;; Just hang in there :)

And wow, you got the package really quickly, like Niravive. Glad you like it :) Wasn't sure bout Rain's clothes, but I made him late at night ^^;; I still think his wings look really cool though, very rainbow brite ;)

And pretty doll... 9-10 wigs? Wow, that is a really big head, but isn't a good bishie worth it? ;)

Since I only had Tian before, he's certainly influenced what I think of as 'normal'. ^^; Though 9-10 isnt' an uncommon size. Tian's 8-9 is actually considered 'small SD' as opposed to just normal 'SD' which is 9-10 on wig sites. 9.9

Speaking of dollies, I was looking up Ark on the UniDoll website, and it looks like his ears are magnets instead of slide-in types. Would that still work for Tian? I also saw that someone was selling their Ark, but it's also the whole doll and I'm not sure if they're interested in doing a split. ;_; *sigh* I'll still keep an eye out for you, though.

No idea. He's not really calling to me yet... which is why I was pondering giving him to Mikey. I have another head on the way which is far more intriguing, for all that I'm going to have to mod his ears. x.x

I did get a possible offer for the ears! *excited* No, Tian doesn't use magnet ears, but I already knew I'd have to mod them to fit him. ^^; Heh.

BJDs? There are quite a few companies that make them, mostly in China or Korea. There's a huge forum (Den of Angels (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/index.php)) that has links to all the major companies along with a lot of information about caring for the dolls as well. :)
