Ugh. Writing Julian is like pulling teeth. He's so... stuffy. x.x Though Sebastian appears to be rubbing off on him a bit too much, as he's taken to making smartass comments about certain things. -__-;;
But I figured I'd at least prove to you that something is being written, even if it's still not what I'm supposed to be writing, and it's moving at about the pace of molassas in midwinter. :P
Takes place shortly after The Kiss scene.
Julian
He ran as fast and as far as his strength and the night would permit him, stopping only when the sky was well lit with the approaching day and he was forced to seek the shadows or greet his own destruction in the full brightness of the sun's glory. Only then did he seek shelter, arising again when the sun was only just set and its dying blood set the skies aflame. Not the most comfortable of times to travel, certainly, but he had not the patience to await full darkness. Fortunately, he had long since passed the point where such weak light could harm him.
Not so, the one from whom he fled, though he knew that by common standards Sebastian was quite ancient indeed. Eight hundred years, more or less, and still not fallen to madness. Another time Julian might be quite fascinated indeed with the way Sebastian could remain so whimsical and carefree despite all that he had endured, that he could be a part of life and still remain untouched by the madness that ever had been their kind's curse. But Sebastian brought with him another kind of danger, another kind of madness, and it was one that Julian ever felt himself falling deeper and deeper into.
It had been the height of folly, his actions that night in the hotel. There had been no reason to linger, certainly a vampire of Sebastian's age would heal quickly and easily, now that he'd been removed from danger, and yet...
And yet memory of those pain-glazed blue eyes haunted him, as damning then as they'd been the first time he'd encountered them. They were made for light and laughter, and the pain had not suited them. And so Julian had done something very foolish, something he'd refrained from doing since the time when he'd been young and naive and hadn't yet given up hope of not spending eternity alone.
Now he knew better, and yet had done it anyway. All because he couldn't bear the pain he saw in warm eyes he had ever struggled and failed to forget.
At least he could take some solace in the knowledge that those eyes would no longer be pain clouded, even as he himself fled from their memory. No, not their memory, for that continued to ever haunt him, but from the possessor of such bright eyes, he who ever remained lurking at the edges of Julian's thoughts, whispering sweetly to him from the shadows, ever tempting him into madness.
So long he'd managed to exist untouched, untainted, only to have it all undone in an instant.
Perhaps, like Sebastian, he'd already fallen and simply didn't know it yet.
Julian knew not how long he ran, one night blending into the next, and the next, and the next. He never stopped more than was forced upon him by the day, and it was not until the realization that he'd had to feed more than once that he finally slowed his frantic flight.
How long had he been running? How many years? How many more would he continue to run before it ended?
He didn't know. There were none that could truly understand his dilemma... but there were a few who might, at least, be able to give him guidance.
Long had the ancient ones hidden themselves away from the world, only venturing out when the need to feed forced it upon them. Few knew even of their existence, much less where they had chosen to seclude themselves for all time.
Julian had wandered through an endless eternity of nights, roaming the world many times over. He was far from arrogant enough to assume he knew where all of his bretheren chose to dwell, but he did acknowledge that he was the only one who could find the majority with hardly any effort. So little did the others know beyond their own tiny sphere of influence, their rigidly guarded territory, that they remained utterly ignorant of what transpired in the rest of the world.
Sometimes, however, that worked to Julian's advantage, in that as long as only one immortal knew where to find them, the other ancient vampires felt no inclination to move. Thus, Julian always knew where to find them.

Date: 2008-01-21 06:55 pm (UTC)I hope that Julian will come to realize how wonderful it can be to find happiness and solace with someone else. I hope that Sebastian will go after him, because Julian does not need to be alone any more.
Yet I can understand Julian's way of thinking, since when one is alone you often think that it is better that way, but to open up is the greatest joy, so lets hope that Julian will do that.
And I must say that I agree with Alice, smexing would be nice!! (o';'o) *nods head as well*
