Controlled Chaos
The screen had gone dark, but he didn't really notice. Always there were thousands, millions of thoughts flooding his mind at any given moment, a never-ending stream of ideas and concepts that would drive another man mad. Sometimes, he felt it would drive him mad. The only way to get the endless thoughts out of his mind was either to bring them to life, or drown them in sensation.
At the moment, it was sensation. The fear that he'd kept bottled up until he thought he'd burst, mingled with the bitter tang of hurt and the rising burn of anger. Though mostly it was the fear. He didn't deal well with fear. Especially when that fear had been momentarily washed away with relief, and was now rapidly building again.
Pyotr was alive. He'd known, from a mathematical standpoint, that the odds of Pyotr being alive were very good. Knowing that, however, and actually seeing, actually speaking with the man... was something else entirely.
Touching, however, he was still denied. Someone else was going to pick up Pyotr. Someone else would have to keep him safe.
Biting his lip hard, Tau Ceti concentrated on nothing but breathing in and out in a slow, steady pattern, until he no longer felt quite so much on the urge of panic. Think. He had to think. Pyotr had given him a task, and however much he wanted to disregard it he knew he never would. Brothers were always there for each other, even if they weren't related by blood. Pyotr needed him, and everything else was irrelevant.
First things first. Summoning up his 'someone is going to pay' expression, he sent out a tightly-coded message to the Brilliant. Cyan could hold his own against Sigma. Surely, surely that meant he could keep Pyotr safe as well. That was the belief he would have to cling to, at least.
He wished Sigma wasn't on the bridge. He needed... something. Needed to be held. Needed to allow himself a moment of weakness. But there was no time for weakness. The names Pyotr had given him - he knew those names. What it meant, that Pyotr had asked him to find. It made him sick and furious all at once.
It was the fury that he held onto as he began his search, tapping into data and systems that no one should have been able to access without proper authorization, systems that precious few even knew about. Legal systems and illegal. IG systems and independent. All designed to be impenetrable.
All of them surrendered to him without the slightest resistance.
Haven first. Triangulate coordinates, interface with satellites he'd 'modified' to suit his purposes, set up a perimeter - half a parsec should do. The trojan code emitted by his pet satellites should force any ship that heard it to maintain distance from the boundary sphere. If for some reason a ship was running deaf and blind and managed to elude his little trap...
Tau Ceti sighed and crafted a message to send to the Melee, making sure to send it to Meiki's terminal for broadcasting. If he had to play with the stupid mongrel cat, he wasn't going to be nice about it.
Haven secured, he turned his attention back to his other two projects. The data was coming in, and what he had was already making his blood boil. Someone's heads were going to roll. He hoped Pyotr had a suitably nasty punishment in mind.
There was a brief blink, then his data suddenly tripled. Tau smiled tightly, pleased despite the grimness of the situation. Toby was fast. He wanted an android. Too bad neither Sigma nor Pyotr would let him have one.
Keeping half his attention on the search - his pet AIs couldn't break through restricted encryptions as easily as he could - Tau carefully went over in his mind the only part of this mess he was going to enjoy. Controlled chaos, Pyotr had asked for. Permission to wreak havoc on those he'd never been allowed to upset before. An entire world at his fingertips, his to do with as he pleased.
Tau Ceti allowed the tiniest hint of a smile to steal across his lips as he accessed one of his personal files and readied it for execution.
He'd always wanted to unleash the Shiva project. This, this was going to be fun.

Date: 2007-07-17 04:47 am (UTC)Cornelius is going to have to deal with Meiki? Oh dear, I love how even as Tau's emotions are running up and down the rollercosters he still manages to annoy people in a reasuringly consistant manner without sacrificing efficiency and what he needs to get done.
I'm not sure that made sense, but this drabble is pure love.

Date: 2007-07-22 08:19 pm (UTC)Heh, and I want to mention before I don't anywhere that I love how you and M have integrated the the entire verse together. ^___^ I am ever-so-amused by mentions of Tau in MTB and all the other created characters that get cameos and swapped back and forth. ^___^
Heh, and giving Tau permission to wreak controlled chaos? Oh, this is going to be fun. ^_______^ ::grin:: And the Shiva project? ::pokes:: and you call ME a tease. ^____^ ::glomps::

Date: 2007-07-23 12:07 am (UTC)Trading characters is fun? ^^;; I didn't mean to so thoroughly steal her verse, it just... sorta worked out that way once Pyotr and Tau Ceti's relationship made itself clear. >.>;
^^; I didn't mean to be a tease, I was just leaving it open for whatever M wants to do with it. I did send her ideas, and I think what Tau actually unleashes will be a 'tame' version of the Shiva project. ;)
