So, today you get a sorta-kinda sneak peek cause my art muses are unpredictable. ^^; You won't have any clue who these two are, because they're from my in-progress Darkness sidestory. (Yes, Alice, the one with Gwyn that I posted to you in a comment. ^_^ That's Gwyn on the left.)

Yes, lined paper again. x.x I forgot to take blank paper with me and I still can't find my little sketchbook. Rawr. May have to make a trip to Michaels for a new one.

P.S. All you quasi-lurkers with little stars in foreign countries, tell me about your homelands! *_* I am most curious what it is like to grow up elsewhere. I've been to Australia and Indonesia once (Sydney is the cleanest city I have ever seen) and Canada of course, but everywhere else is like "ooh, shiny!" ^__^ Hee.

And you West Coast peeps! How far away are you? o.o Some of those dots look awfully close... but then, that's a very tiny map. ^^; Anyone else actually in Oregon, or just Washington/California?

Oooh, you're close! *_* Makes me want to go visit Portland and steal you for my own personal tour guide. *GRIN* Mikey and I have been pondering going up there to find him a gay bar or something, but I have absolutely no idea what else is in Portland. ^^; We usually bypass it entirely (via the 205 to the 84) when going back to Idaho. 9.9 Not that I've done that lately. ^^; Haven't been back home since we got here. I'm a horrible homebody. *sheepish grin*

Me? I come from Sabah, Malaysia, or Borneo. We have the highest peak in South East Asia in the form of Mt. Kinabalu and have a national park filled with things that eat other things and diving spots of international coveted-ness. We're a hop away from Indonesia, a bit of a stretch from Australia. Our food is Good. We have lots. At the northern peak of Sabah(In the Kudat Area) there is a point that juts out where you can look left to the south china sea and right to the Sulu Sea. It's beautiful but has one of the most retarded governments on Earth. We're famous for eco-tourism. If nothing else, at least come for the lolz.

-seconds to the food comment-

You can actually get free food, you know. Come up to this kenduri - or a formal event of some sort, with tents everywhere *-* - with traditional clothes... Or formalwear... or something - and stand outside the house. They'll make you sit down and eat something. Just like that. >_____> I got ushered to 5 kenduris before I could finally make it to my cousin's... Which is really the whole point of the trip... But I was full at the end :P

Damn it. Now I'm hungry T____T

Hee. Pointy ears! (That should not excite me so. I thought I'd become immune to pointy ears >.<)

Here in the Netherlands, contrary to popular belief, life isn't all about clogs and windmills and tulips. Just so you know XD. We have pretty pretty cities (I recommend Leiden, if anyone ever be visiting) and pretty countryside (tourists have been known to say we look like a garden). And the food's okay, too. Lots of foreign restaurants where the food actually tastes nothing like it would in the foreign countries themselves. But it's still pretty good. So-called "Dutch" restaurants are to be avoided cause really they serve French-style food (damn Napoleon) and are Teh Expensive. The exception is Humphreys, which is actually a chain and which does shiny food for a good price.
We have a stupid government (not as stupid as Bush though) and a fundamentalist Christian version of Harry Potter as our Prime Minister. Weird stuff about anti-terrorism and virtues and morals and tolerance is going on. The monarchy is cool, though. They have lots of girl babies, for some reason (go girl powerr!).
Almost everyone speaks English (though with really bad accents) and we have a lot of good British and US shows on tv. Our own shows are not that great (soap operas and game shows, one lamer after the other - though not as lame, I've noticed, as Italian game shows).
Getting into Uni is easier than in the US, though said stupid government is trying to up the cost XD

I didn't mean to ramble on, really. Sorry ^__^;

Stupid governments seem to be par for the course. x.x But yay food! ^^ What's the actual language (Dutch? The naming scheme of your country has always confused me...) and have I named any chars in your language? ^^; I have two dictionaries that I'm not all that sure where the languages come from. >.>; I think the little red one is Norway, but the other one's info pages are all in the other language. ^^; "engels nederlands woordenboek" is the title.

I'll second Leiden being beautiful - I was there briefly at the end of April. But I liked the tulips and windmills - not so keen on the clogs though! Too many photos linked from my LJ at the start of May. I don't think I had a proper meal but the snacks and brodjie (sp?), a sort of bread roll, were good and I enjoyed myself. And most of the people I spoke to were perfectly understandable in English!

*waves* Fancy bumping into quite a few Malaysian here too. From Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, which is more city-like and hardly any of the beautiful foresty areas we're supposed to be famous for.

But the food rocks and we've our own 'Malaysian time' (a joke, pretty much, since everyone is usually about half an hour to an hour late for a lot of things :D)

...and we have nothing much to do on weekends so everyone crams themselves into shopping malls... which is the same all around the world, I think but there you go - *cities*.

I'm... not from anywhere exotic. Unless you count Wisconsin as exotic. Then you might have some issues. Maybe. Unless farming communities with cities placed randomly are your thing. Then maybe not.

I live in Appleton which isn't all that special I guess. Though, I think the map said Green Bay which is actually about an hour north of here.

Oh, I suppose that's something weird we do. We measure distance with time instead of miles. ^.^; I have no idea how far away some cities/towns are, but I know about how long it takes to get there!

All that I know of Wisconsin is that it's where Todd-niisan lived and he was the first gay man I ever knew and was responsible for me confronting the concept of 'gay' at age 14. :) And if that hadn't happened I probably wouldn't be writing it which means that Wisconsin is pretty important. ;)

*laughs helplessly* I do that too! Mom's house is 3 1/2 hours south of here. ^__^ 'home' in Idaho is 9 hours, give or take. Portland is 2-ish. *still giggling*

Ooh! More pretty Darkness characters! One of them seems to have round ears . . .Have you drawn a round-eared character before? I can't recall seeing one. Or at least, I can't recall seeing the ears of one.

I'm not from anywhere exotic either, but I don't think I registered on the map. Santa Cruz, California. Home of, as you pointed out, the open air shopping mall. Not that I know that very well: shopping malls = scary!

Aw, I hail from Florida. That's hardly exotic. (Unless you count Key West, because = Mutant Cats!!!)

If you're headed to the art store, I gotta jump in with a sketchbook rec: http://www.dickblick.com/zz100/10a

Aquabee brand sketchbooks are to-tal-ly gorgeous, and take media abuse really well. Alternate choice: Winsor & Newton sketchbooks are so smooth to draw on they make me giddy. They don't take lots of rubbing, scrubbing, and watery washes as well as Aquabees, but for just no frills drawing I'd rec them as well.

/two cents. :D

Strathmore 9x12s have been my sketchbook of preference for a long time, and I'm pretty sure the missing mini-sketchbook is a Strathmore too. *.* I actually touched every single sketchbook in the store before making that decision. ^^; *dork*

I haven't figured out how to make the map work either - I'm glad I'm not alone! I'm in the UK about an hour north of London. I live in a fairly rural area of conifer plantations and airbases. Plenty of US citizens around here so I can understand most accents now! I was in the States a few years ago and it was weird. Things were so familiar and yet so different. The biggest differences are the size of the country and the fact that we drive on the left. I suppose you would find all the old buildings strange but I didn't really notice the lack of them when we were touring the Four Corners and a whistle-stop dash through Florida. Most cities seem to look the same everywhere. But it is the little things that throw you when you are in a foreign country, isn't it? The trying to find something you forgot to bring with you, like a note pad or band-aids! All hail Wal-mart where you can find anything if you aren't too distracted by all the shinies...

Look forward to meeting Gwyn and his friend!

I like your Darknessverse so I'm quite happy about this new development coming up.
I already told you I'm living in France near Paris, the town's name is actually "Villejuif".
I'm one of these French people who actually truly love Paris; when I go in some others towns people are often surprised that I don't want to leave Paris, but it runs in the family (my sister is in love with her flat cause she actually can see the Tour Eiffel from her bed when she wake up and my parents truly regret they had to leave here for Toulon_ some port in the South East_Côte d'Azur). If I had to leave Paris, I don't think it will be for somewhere else in France. There are a few things I don't like here though people's dirtiness (?) [stop making your dog poo in front of my door!! I'd like to walk normally on my street on day!!] and the real estate business [the prices!!] and the pollution too [so used to it nearly forget it]
