Lunchtime sketchies

So, today you get a sorta-kinda sneak peek cause my art muses are unpredictable. ^^; You won't have any clue who these two are, because they're from my in-progress Darkness sidestory. (Yes, Alice, the one with Gwyn that I posted to you in a comment. ^_^ That's Gwyn on the left.)

Yes, lined paper again. x.x I forgot to take blank paper with me and I still can't find my little sketchbook. Rawr. May have to make a trip to Michaels for a new one.
P.S. All you quasi-lurkers with little stars in foreign countries, tell me about your homelands! *_* I am most curious what it is like to grow up elsewhere. I've been to Australia and Indonesia once (Sydney is the cleanest city I have ever seen) and Canada of course, but everywhere else is like "ooh, shiny!" ^__^ Hee.
And you West Coast peeps! How far away are you? o.o Some of those dots look awfully close... but then, that's a very tiny map. ^^; Anyone else actually in Oregon, or just Washington/California?
*goes off to lose the fight with her fsking allergies*

Date: 2007-06-29 09:36 am (UTC)You can actually get free food, you know. Come up to this kenduri - or a formal event of some sort, with tents everywhere *-* - with traditional clothes... Or formalwear... or something - and stand outside the house. They'll make you sit down and eat something. Just like that. >_____> I got ushered to 5 kenduris before I could finally make it to my cousin's... Which is really the whole point of the trip... But I was full at the end :P
Damn it. Now I'm hungry T____T

Re P.S.: Well boo. They list me as coming from Bucharest, the bastards! *pokes them with a stick*
I really need to describe Transylvania in an LJ entry at some point, don't I. ^^;;;

Date: 2007-06-29 03:21 pm (UTC)Yus and yus. ^_^ Hee. Isn't he pretty? Gwyn thinks he's pretty. *snicker*
Bucharest? >.> Is that far? 9.9 Hmm. Maybe your ISP is out of Bucharest? 9.9 An ARIN dig on your IP address says Amsterdam. o.o;
Yay Transylvania! ^_^ You do take pictures, which is good, but we need to know about the pictures too. *grin* What is life like for Alice, out in bloodsucker country? ^.~

Date: 2007-06-29 11:49 am (UTC)Here in the Netherlands, contrary to popular belief, life isn't all about clogs and windmills and tulips. Just so you know XD. We have pretty pretty cities (I recommend Leiden, if anyone ever be visiting) and pretty countryside (tourists have been known to say we look like a garden). And the food's okay, too. Lots of foreign restaurants where the food actually tastes nothing like it would in the foreign countries themselves. But it's still pretty good. So-called "Dutch" restaurants are to be avoided cause really they serve French-style food (damn Napoleon) and are Teh Expensive. The exception is Humphreys, which is actually a chain and which does shiny food for a good price.
We have a stupid government (not as stupid as Bush though) and a fundamentalist Christian version of Harry Potter as our Prime Minister. Weird stuff about anti-terrorism and virtues and morals and tolerance is going on. The monarchy is cool, though. They have lots of girl babies, for some reason (go girl powerr!).
Almost everyone speaks English (though with really bad accents) and we have a lot of good British and US shows on tv. Our own shows are not that great (soap operas and game shows, one lamer after the other - though not as lame, I've noticed, as Italian game shows).
Getting into Uni is easier than in the US, though said stupid government is trying to up the cost XD
I didn't mean to ramble on, really. Sorry ^__^;

Date: 2007-06-29 03:31 pm (UTC)Stupid governments seem to be par for the course. x.x But yay food! ^^ What's the actual language (Dutch? The naming scheme of your country has always confused me...) and have I named any chars in your language? ^^; I have two dictionaries that I'm not all that sure where the languages come from. >.>; I think the little red one is Norway, but the other one's info pages are all in the other language. ^^; "engels nederlands woordenboek" is the title.
*glomp* ^__^ Hee. <3

Date: 2007-06-29 02:43 pm (UTC)I live in Perth, Western Australia.
It's... a long way away from anywhere else with a population over 1 million. (70% of my state's population live in Perth. This is impressive when you consider my state takes up about 1/3 of Australia.)

Date: 2007-06-29 03:35 pm (UTC)Hurrah for Aussies! ^__^ I want one. >.> Accent. *.* Drool. *.*

Date: 2007-06-29 03:48 pm (UTC)But the food rocks and we've our own 'Malaysian time' (a joke, pretty much, since everyone is usually about half an hour to an hour late for a lot of things :D)
...and we have nothing much to do on weekends so everyone crams themselves into shopping malls... which is the same all around the world, I think but there you go - *cities*.
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-29 03:55 pm (UTC)Shopping malls aren't always the same. *grin* In California they're almost all open-air, whereas up north where I'm at we actually get rain and stuff so we have to have them all enclosed. ^.~ I haven't been to too many here.. I think there's only 3 major ones? 9.9 I spend my weekends writing and pestering M. ^^;

Date: 2007-06-29 04:01 pm (UTC)Thailand? *.* Pretty! And warm. *.* You're in monsoon territory aren't you? What's that like? o.o Do you dress up in the pretty costumes for holidays? The US is so boring. We don't have pretty outfits. :( Ooh, you get fancy lettering. *.* Envy. o.o! AHAHAHAHAHA! That's where Bangkok is! ^____^ *snicker* If you see any sexy twins and their pretty running around, take pictures! *still snickering*

Date: 2007-06-29 05:01 pm (UTC)I live in Appleton which isn't all that special I guess. Though, I think the map said Green Bay which is actually about an hour north of here.
Oh, I suppose that's something weird we do. We measure distance with time instead of miles. ^.^; I have no idea how far away some cities/towns are, but I know about how long it takes to get there!
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-29 05:06 pm (UTC)*laughs helplessly* I do that too! Mom's house is 3 1/2 hours south of here. ^__^ 'home' in Idaho is 9 hours, give or take. Portland is 2-ish. *still giggling*

Date: 2007-06-29 06:33 pm (UTC)I'm not from anywhere exotic either, but I don't think I registered on the map. Santa Cruz, California. Home of, as you pointed out, the open air shopping mall. Not that I know that very well: shopping malls = scary!
We also have lovely beaches, shops that sell all kinds of expensive pretty things, and liberal politics.

Date: 2007-06-30 04:28 am (UTC)Yay for liberal politics! ^^; *waves her 'I <3 gayboys' flag* ;)

Date: 2007-06-29 08:56 pm (UTC)If you're headed to the art store, I gotta jump in with a sketchbook rec: http://www.dickblick.com/zz100/10a
Aquabee brand sketchbooks are to-tal-ly gorgeous, and take media abuse really well. Alternate choice: Winsor & Newton sketchbooks are so smooth to draw on they make me giddy. They don't take lots of rubbing, scrubbing, and watery washes as well as Aquabees, but for just no frills drawing I'd rec them as well.
/two cents. :D

Date: 2007-06-30 04:44 am (UTC)I dunno about your tour, but I noticed a huge difference between the eastern and western USA. Maybe that's because I grew up in the west, but it weirded me out good. ^^; Heh.
*snicker* Wal-Mart is taking over the world, one retail location at a time. ^__^

Date: 2007-06-30 02:40 pm (UTC)New Darkness characters? Seriously? Seriously seriously? You're not just out to horribly tease me? *__________*!! SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Gyah! They're so adorable. And I loves the pointy ears. *feels them up*

Date: 2007-06-30 06:29 pm (UTC)I already told you I'm living in France near Paris, the town's name is actually "Villejuif".
I'm one of these French people who actually truly love Paris; when I go in some others towns people are often surprised that I don't want to leave Paris, but it runs in the family (my sister is in love with her flat cause she actually can see the Tour Eiffel from her bed when she wake up and my parents truly regret they had to leave here for Toulon_ some port in the South East_Côte d'Azur). If I had to leave Paris, I don't think it will be for somewhere else in France.There are a few things I don't like here though people's dirtiness (?) [stop making your dog poo in front of my door!! I'd like to walk normally on my street on day!!] and the real estate business [the prices!!] and the pollution too [so used to it nearly forget it]
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-30 06:43 pm (UTC)You sister sounds lucky, though. It must be awesome to be able to see a national landmark from your house. Though I think I still prefer Mom's house where you can see the ocean from almost every window. :)
