Attempting to coerce my muses into coming back by baiting them with bits of crossover insanity. This time the victims are Nae and Torhle from 'The Azure' and [livejournal.com profile] maderr's Raiden and Takara from Treasure.

---

"So," Torhle asked casually, biting into the warm fruit in his hand, "How long do you think it'll take him to cool off?"

Naefindan considered, leaning over to lick extraneous juice off Torhle's chin. "Well, the last time I pissed him off like that, he left me for a week. This time...? Hmm..."

Torhle laughed. "You know, technically this could be considered mutiny," he pointed out.

Nae smirked. "Not if he always comes back. Besides, it's my ship. I could find the Azure anywhere." He lay back in the warm sand, eyes closed contentedly. "And it's Lan. I trust him not to do anything to hurt my baby while I'm being punished or whatever it is he thinks he's doing by stranding me on random islands in the middle of nowhere."

"Speaking of," Torhle mused, tearing off bits of fruit and feeding them to Naefindan, "Where are we?"

Naefindan licked his lips, ostentatiously to get every drop of juice but more likely simply to be incredibly sensual, before replying. "I have no idea. Somewhere much further south than we usually sail. I could ask the fish, but there's really not much point. Lan will come back eventually."

"So we just kill time and find ways to amuse ourselves until he decides he's no longer mad at you," Torhle summarized. "That may take a while. I've never seen Lanthus quite like that before."

Nae grinned. "Of course not. That's why I do it. The man really needs to loosen up. For someone who looks like he should have been a pirate, he's remarkably uptight."

Torhle considered. "You know, I bet a lot of his personality issues would be solved if he'd just get laid."

Naefindan's laughter echoed out over the sandy beach and across the incoming waves, rippling with amusement. He wrapped his arms around his waist as he doubled over helplessly, struggling for a breath.

"Oh ho," a voice cut in, laced thickly with amusement, "Where did you two come from?"

Both their heads swung around, Nae choking on his laughter as he cut it off. The man who had somehow crept up undetected was tall, almost as tall as Lanthus, and had blue hair so dark it appeared nearly black. He was wearing clothes done in brilliant greens and yellows and had jewelry nearly everywhere.

"I didn't know Lan had a brother," Naefindan observed after a moment, trying not to snicker as he rose to his feet. "I am sorry, Sir Pirate, but as your long-lost twin has already seen fit to strand us here, we have nothing of value left to take."

The tall man blinked for a moment, then roared with laughter. "Ha! Pirate!" He clapped them both on the shoulder. "Hardly that, my friends. I am the merchant Raiden, and this is the island of Sanhoshi. My home. If you are indeed stranded, then you picked a fortuitous place in which to be so. Welcome!"

Torhle hid a smile. "Well, that's convenient. And here we thought for sure we'd ended up someplace deserted. That's far more Lanthus's style. I'm Torhle, and the silly one is Naefindan."

Throwing an arm across both their shoulders, Raiden steered Torhle and Naefindan down the beach. "So then, might I ask what in the Storms' names you did to piss off your captain?"

Naefindan snickered and Torhle laughed aloud. "Actually, Nae's the captain. Lanthus is his first mate."

Raiden blinked and gave him an incredulous look, then shifted it to Naefindan. "Your first mate threw you overboard?" he asked.

They had to pause a moment as Naefindan doubled over in helpless laughter again, Torhle shaking his head in bemusement at the time it took for the blond to recover. "Yes, well, I sort of deserved it," he managed at last. "Lanthus will come back for us whenever he calms down, so no harm done."

The tall merchant shook his head, obviously amused. "If Kindan's first mate pitched him overboard, I don't believe we'd ever find all the pieces of him."

Naefindan looked up curiously. "Kindan?"

Raiden grinned. "Best captain in my fleet, bar none, but I certainly wouldn't want to piss him off."

"Ooh," Nae replied, aqua eyes sparkling. "Can I meet him?"

Raiden laughed again and shook his head slightly. "Kin's out on the Kumiko with Nankyo. Not sure when they'll be back. Maybe they'll show up before your first mate comes to retrieve you and you can meet them then."

"I hope so," Naefindan returned, nearly bouncing in his glee.

Torhle raised a brow. "You just want to see if you can needle him like you do with Lan, don't you?" he asked. Naefindan grinned innocently.

"Who, me?"

Raiden's laughter lasted all the way back to the massive house he called home, only breaking off so that he could call cheerfully up the stairs, "Taka? Where are you?"

All three came inside, Nae and Torhle looking around curiously at the casual displays of wealth situated everywhere, before he got a response.

"Raiden? I thought you said you were going out for a while..." the man trailed off, blinking at them. He was about Naefindan's height, with bright blue hair the color of the open sea. Like Raiden he dressed in bright colors, though unlike the merchant he only wore a single piece of jewelry in the form of a ring.

Raiden grinned and walked over calmly to sweep the smaller man into his arms and give him a kiss in greeting. "I found some driftwood on the beach. Thought you might like to meet them. The dark-haired one's Torhle, and the blond is... Nae something." His brow creased faintly in thought.

"Nae works just fine," Naefindan told him, bemused, coming over to examine Taka a little closer. "And you have splendid taste in... decorations."

"Not decorations," Raiden returned, grinning wider as his arms tightened slightly around Taka, "Treasure."

Taka rolled his eyes but made no move to free himself from the merchant's grasp. Instead his gaze sought out Torhle and he smiled faintly. "Please tell me you're the sane one," he beseeched.

Torhle and Naefindan both laughed, Torhle shrugging helplessly as he did so. "I'm with him, so I'm not sure I have any right to lay claim to sanity," he returned.

This time, everyone laughed. Naefindan made his way back to Torhle's side, twining their fingers together as he peered up at the taller man. "You're not complaining, are you?" he purred.

"Hardly," Torhle returned with a grin, ducking his head to steal a brief kiss that swiftly turned into a rather heated one as Naefindan decided to demonstrate just why Torhle had no qualms about being tied to the crazy blond.

"Mmmmmm..." Nae murmured when they parted, "Good. Finding someone your equal to replace you would be impossible, I think."

Taka snickered. Raiden laughed, then beckoned to them. "Come, come, there is food and wine and you can tell us all about whatever it was you did that got you stranded on my island."

Nae and Torhle followed him into a sitting room, the former grinning impudently. "Oh, I don't know, it's not that grand a story..."

Torhle snorted. Raiden laughed again. "Now why don't I believe that?" he asked.

"Because he reminds you of you," Taka observed dryly, "And you would most certainly have done something spectacular if you were going to try to make someone mad at you. Honestly, you're worse than Kyo."

It was a long, long time before the laughter finally died.

Oh, cute! I'm liking your little crossovers! Poor Lan... I wonder if he'll find someone to help him, er, relax?

My mind is going into the future, imagining Torhle and Nae visiting the island on vacations and such. Sweet.

I wonder if Torhle is from different mer people than the ones who know the Storm Dragons? Am I thinking about it too deeply? *grin*

9.9 Good question... >.>; He needs one, doesn't he? ^^

*laugh* There's a scary thought. Naefindan and Raiden being buddies. World, have fear.

*LAUGH* Nae, and you are definately thinking too deeply. It's a pointless crossover. Do not confuse things with the issue of strange genetic differences in merpeople. ;)

*laughs at self* I even wrote the wrong name in my thinking too deeply, which is funny because Torhle's name takes so much more thought to spell than Nae's. I could do a whole paper on the merpeople in each story and their significance to the land-dwelling societies in each universe. I totally rocked at that kind of thing in school.^^

Also, boy(girl)friend for Lan! Yay! (see how I did that, putting words in your mouth. Hee-hee.)

Heh. Cause of the weirdly placed h? ^^ *snicker* If you write that, I so want to see it. That would be awesome. ^______^

*sweatdrop* Smartaleck. :P You need to steal him too. *nod* Write him a drabblet or something. ;)

Heheh... Lan is... interesting. ^^ I have a quasi-thought for a sequel with him, but I dunno if I'll actually mess with it. ^^ In the meantime, he's really good for playing foil for Nae's insanity. ;)

I leave it up to your imagination as to what Nae did to Lan this time. ^.~

-laughs- What did he do to piss Lan off so much? Now I'm all curious. And also, what would happen if Nae the merman met Kindan the merman? Would they recognise each other? Would they be related, or because this is after all a crossover, would you have to have them from opposing tribes or races of merpeople? -intrigued by this notion-

Thoroughly amusing, anyway, even if you don't plan to continue.

Nae only has to open his mouth to piss off Lan, I think. ^^; As for the merpeople differences, well, there was a reason Kin didn't show up in the story... *grin*

That's just a copout! Come on, what happened to the merpeople blood feuds?

Kin and Nae are non-standard merpeople already. Neither of them really goes for blood feuds. ;)
