The holidays are a hard season, for many reasons. Stress is high, shoppers panic trying to find those last-minute gifts, and retailers want to shoot said shoppers and put them out of their misery.

But it's hardest when you're miles from family, and the closest person to you is anti-family and doesn't see or care what it's all about.

So, of course, in the middle of these depressing times, add female hormones from our monthly event.

I'm in Eugene now and going to the University of Oregon. Been waiting for them to post grades...

Oh wow! The only people I know in Eugene are my parents who live with me. That would be so cool, however I should warn you that I would probably go all fangirl on you!

Um, I need to check with my caregiver (who is also mom) who is at work. She takes her next break here soon. I know we were going to go and do laundry in the morning sometime, but then I think I would be free.

Aww I hope you feel better! I can't go home to visit my family this year so that's kind of sad but it'll be nice to have a holiday home with myself for once too I think.

Alone, that I could deal with. I'd just call everyone. But my roommate just doesn't "get it" and special family-type holidays with him are misery because of it. :(

My parents leave tomorrow and I'm not going to have any family within [extremely large distance] (not even the cousin in Montana since she's back in Australia, although I think I have another cousin in Chicago) so I sympathise.

I commented on Twitter that it was the first year in my life that I don't have any plans for Christmas Day, and got a response saying "lucky :)". Not in my opinion!

Yeah, people who think being alone for the holidays is lucky are people who aren't close to family. Ie, my roommate. :/

It looks like you can get US passports renewals rushed through (24 hrs), but it's more expensive. Otherwise it's 4-6 weeks (or 2-3 expedited) :/

We handed in our green slips so I don't want to try entering the US again until next year.

Yeesh, not speedy, are they. I should probably get around to renewing mine one of these days, so I'd have it when I wanted it. *grumble* I miss the days when you didn't need a passport for Canada.
