I'm guessing that cell phones don't work too well around magic, anymore than they do around mountains. I don't think the scary Roc part was too rushed. I did wonder why they didn't look around once it was turned into a cute Roc, but if they saw the bones from the air that explains it - not like a Roc stores its prey for later.
One little tiny picky for u: Due to his father's blood, Kir was never cold. He didn't particularly care for cold weather, and was always happiest during a heat wave, but at least he cold tolerate it. could tolerate(?) *sorry, couldn't resist the punny thing*
