x.x Okay, I give up. Does anyone know how to get MS Word to spellcheck in British English instead of American English? Every time I select the 'UK English' dictionary option it goes right back to US English the very next word. ARRGH. *stabbity*

You go to Microsoft Office Tools (should be in the Start menu, or wherever Microsoft dumped your Office links) and access something that says Language Settings or the like. In the "Default version" box, you select the appropriate language (in this case, English UK), and save. :)

Edit: And if you don't want it to always use UK English, just select the whole document, then go to Tools > Language > Set Language, select UK English, and tah-dam!

Must love my UK English using capabilities. I struggle with Office over them every time I do a system install. I really hope this helped. *hugs*

I wish the world would just agree on 'English' y'know? x.x Why us Yanks have to be difficult, I don't know...

why do you need UK?

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Too much time spent talking to Flamebyrd. *sheepish*

[identity profile] maderr.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)

You need UK English to be able to sound like a proper snob. Really, you do. Besides, you also need it if your character is... well, British. XD

[identity profile] maderr.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)

Well, yeah, if your char is British. She didn't say that, hence my confusion. She just said she had to change it b/c she talked to flame.

I have no idea why she needs it. All I know is, I can provide help (since I was taught British English to begin with). XD

Dude, you could probably help in like a million languages.

I am easily confused and it was telling me things were spelled wrong when my brain kept insisting that they were right and it took me a while to figure out that the reason for that was because I seem to have picked up certain British spellings... it's a very easy habit for me to fall back into, because of my years of French which use a lot of words that are way more similar to British spellings than US spellings. Took me years to quit spelling color and armor with a u. x.x; Bloody French.

[identity profile] krellen.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
But colour and armour are spelled with 'u's.

Oooh! Now I might be able to get my CV out of US dictionary after years of sporadic kicking! I still don't know how it got into US in the first place but it has resisted changing. Not too good when you are a UK citizen in the UK and applying for UK jobs! Thank you!

Heh. I'm glad my whining suffering was useful. ^^v
