Ha.

I made Dinner. ^___^ Ham and scalloped potatoes and croissants and candied yams and green beans. *beam* Granted, none of it was from scratch and mostly out of a box/can, but still. ^^;

Ohyeah! Look, Mem! We finally used your placemats! ^__^ and, uh, our dining room table. >.> For the first time. ^^; Up until now it's been my art table... >.> We woulda used the tablecloth, but Mikey used it as a decoration a month or so ago...

YAY YOU COOKED! ^-^ (Here's a secret: Many busy good cooks use ingredients or whole canned/boxed foods and modify them and no one notices they were ready made stuffs)

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. So long as it's yummy, who cares, ne?

That is the point. ^-^

*Looks at you* You didn't grow your own green beans and yams?!!!
This looks lovely and good. Your candied yams look better than mine.

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
*laugh* The candied yams came out of the can that way. I didn't have time to make them from scratch. (nor did I have any marshmallows)

It is a day truly to be celebrated when cooking from scratch. p.s. reads *green beans and yam* and hears *green eggs and ham* 0.0;;; p.p.s. in order to not make something into a link, click the don't auto-format box near the top right hand side

Oooh. >.> So that's how it's done... *feels dumb now* ^^;;

No worries. When I try to link, sometimes it gets pissy at me and refuses to link my link.

[identity profile] mechante-fille.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! You go, girl! I'm so glad that the placemats came in handy.^^ We don't use our table much, either.

Ooh, decoration?

Mm, I love croissant rolls! I don't know anyone who make scalloped potatoes from scratch.^^ Sounds like you did great, hon! *snugs*

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
He, uh, pinned it to this... little two-foot wall that comes down sorta in the middle of our living room? To make a kind of backdrop for the faux plant that sits on the shelf there. ^^;

Heh, yeah, scalloped potatoes are pretty much a box thing. But I could have made croissants and candied yams from scratch, if I wanted?

[identity profile] mechante-fille.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well of course you could have!!!

But I love those little rolls in a can. Why bother with scratch. ^_^

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Because real croissants are just OMG MELTY. *__* This one place in Australia made croissants that were just YUM. *___*

[identity profile] mechante-fille.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, but in this case the goal was dinner rolls, yes? And croissants aren't the same thing. Mmm, I love croissants. Have you had chocolate croissants? Yum!

Australia? When were you in Australia? *jealous*

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Chocolate...? >.> That just sounds... vaguely wrong... o.o;

*laugh* About ten years ago, very briefly, during a two-day layover to Indonesia. :)

[identity profile] mechante-fille.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, they are so good! The croissant dough is folded in a rectangle around chocolate. Mmmm... All melty and warm and delicious!

Ok. Why were you going to Indonesia?

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
3 week trip, gift from my grandparents for good grades. :) It was a blast.

[identity profile] nikerymis.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not true! You know me! I didn't know you could make scalloped potatoes from a box. ^___^ My mom and I always make them from scratch, usually with leftover ham from Christmas or Easter.

[identity profile] mechante-fille.livejournal.com 2007-12-31 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
With ham, hm? I've never liked scalloped potatoes, but maybe I'd like yours.^_^

[identity profile] aetheraestus.livejournal.com 2007-12-26 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
YAY DINNER! I make nothing from scratch, except cookies! And cake, but only if I have the kitchen to myself. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, scalloped potatoes. Croissants are my secret weakness! *melt*

*blink* I can't even remember the last time we used placemats in my house. Actually, I'm not sure we even own any placemats anymore o.O

I'm not sure why my family HAS a table, since 99.9% of the time we eat at the counter or sneak upstairs with it ^^; I suppose because the cat would have nowhere to sunbathe in the kitchen otherwise.

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*snerk* Your family is like me and Mikey. Dinner is in our rooms or on the sofa. ^^; Heh.

Looks yummy! I had devilled eggs, mashed potatoes and sausage, pickled red bell peppers, and fruit and whipped cream cake.

Congratulations on your cooking. Cooking just takes practice and boxes and cans are as good a place to start as any. And generally don't take hours to prepare.

On another note, I'll be sending your present tomorrow, since I just got M's address and I wanted to send them all at once. Plus, I didn't get them till the 24th because the web site had issues.

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, time is definitely one of the issues with me and kitchens. ^^; I am so not patient.

*blushie* You really didn't have to... *blushie more while dying of curiosity*

[identity profile] nikerymis.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I admit, if I had been alone on Christmas, I probably would have eaten pasta or something microwavable. ^___^ Go you, for cooking and actually making tastiness. ::glomps::

[identity profile] tygati.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if I did that I would've started bawling. I was trying very hard to make it all... normal? :/

[identity profile] nikerymis.livejournal.com 2007-12-30 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
::glomps:: You did good. ♥
