*ponderponder*
So far, I've got Sininen, Vesi, and Laine for possibilities. Unless of course
linchan pops up and tells me that those would make horrible names, anyway. ^^;
*still pondering* I need to quit calling him 'Blue baby'. x.x

(Sorry, what/who are you naming? I guess I should have been following you more closely... ;__;)
Can I add you more pondering: Meri (sea, like Atlantic, Pasific and such), Ulappa (the middle of the lake) and Aalto (same as Laine)?

I am naming a doll... and you're not on the doll filter, which means you haven't seen him and missed the "I need to name this guy (http://www.darkkingdom.com/bjd/blue01.jpg)" post. ^^; Heh. Whoops.
I saw Meri, but M has a character named Meriweather so I elected not to consider that one. ^^ Didn't see Ulappa. Hmm. Did see Aalto, but I was having a hard time telling which of the words that came up for 'wave' meant the water one or the hand one. x.@;;

If so, just name him Hauta. -.- Comes from Mariaanien hauta (The Mariana Trench, hauta is the trench part :D), but means "grave" in everyday usage. The word is also very close to (and likely derived from) "haudata", a verb meaning "to bury".
If not, then... you can continue considering what was already suggested. Or get more words: Koski (a rapid), Joki (a river), Lampi (a pond), Sade (rain), Luode (means both the low tide and northwest), Pisara (a drop; sadepisara = rain drop, kastepisare = dew drop), Kaste (dew on grass and flowers or an initiation rite like being baptized; tulikaste = baptism by fire, a chance to prove your worth; upotuskaste = immersion; aamukaste = the dew on grass and ground and such in the morning), Aarnihauta (a place where treasure is buried, can be marked by a heap of stones, can be guarded by blue or green will-o-the-wisps or aarni (=a kind of elf), can only be retrieved from the ground by doing certain things like throwing an iron horseshoe on it or unburying it with the same hand that buried it depending on the place/story, quite archaic word from folklore; can also mean the treasure but another word for a treasure buried in aarnihauta is aarnio which is even more archaic), Kimmellys or Kimallus (both mean glitter, shimmer etc.), Kiille (mica or dental enamel :/, very close to verb kiiltää (=to shine), can be thought to mean "that which shines"), Loiste (glow, shine, sheen), Loisto (glow or one of diamond's features: the way it reflects light; can also mean great or wonderful in colloquial use)...
Sorry for bothering you again and good luck with naming the doll!

Oooh, more words. *_* Man, I know who to go pester the next time I need to name random characters. <3 The folklore lesson was fun too. ^__^ Whee.

Pester all you want. I love coming up words for foreigners. It makes me appreciate Finnish like nothing else. ^___^
I was a tad afraid you might fall asleep during the folklore part. Can I add that the hand doesn't need to be connected to the body of the original burier...? xD

Sininen is spaced like 'si-ni-nen'. And pronounced like you would if those were in Japanese. Well, at least that's as close to the real pronunciation than I can explain. I've always been bad at all things pertaining to language, no matter the language. I'd like to mention that Sini is a female name in Finnish, as is Meri even though that one is much rarer and usually hyphenated. And yes, Finnish is my first language ^_^

Figures that the one I liked the best would be the one that sounds strangest to a native speaker. Heh. Maybe I should just call him Sini... >.> Although, then I'd have two dolls with four letter names... ^^;;

Tuuli is also a Finnish name for a female. It means a wind.
For some reason when I am supposed to remember names nothing comes into my mind... :D
*huugs*

Er, and it doesn't have to be female. ^^; Technically the doll is male, he just happens to look like a girl. :)

Treasure = Aarre (actually a male's name)
Sparkle = Kipinä (in Finnish this word is a verb, not reallly a noun... that was the closest I could come. Krimie, any ideas? ^^)
I kind of guessed your doll would be a male. :D I'm sure most people won't know if the name is meant for female or male so it's okay. Right? *giggles*
Where do you buy your dolls? They are awesome.

Oh, those are rather nice words too. I like both Lahja and Kipina... and Rapple typoed Sininen as Sinnien, which is pretty too... @.@

Naming things is really difficult. I am really bad at it... which is why my sister usually ends up doing it. If I ever have children... I wish I could just name them "Child number 1" and so on. That would be so evil. Poor kids.

I can usually make up names from random letters, but that ability failed me for little blue doll. x.x; So I resort to naming method #2, which is pretty words in foreign languages. :)

Sparkle = Loiste (sparkle in reference to snow, or other shiny surfaces, kipinä = a spark from a fire)
Heh, glad to know the problem with naming is pretty much universal. It sucks not to be gifted with any kind of imagination. I so envy you people that manage any kind of creativity.

Names are forever my worst bane. But as long as I don't repeat the Hawaiian Names Incident, I shall be fine. ^^;

... You know? What about just calling him Blue? Simple, yet effective :P

There are at least two posts about the name of this poor dude. And we all started, like you, with Blue Pretty/Baby/Whatever-y. It muste be a sign :P
Or maybe a sign, like you said, that we're entirely devoid of creativity x.x
I re-read Azure Seas and the Dragon Isles ebook a few days ago: have I mentioned how awesome you are? Because you are. Also, Trouble is <3.

I suck with names, but if you need help with finnish and all your other very capable resources are busy, you can bug me ;D
The names you already have in mind sound wonderful, I hope you can pick one out that you find the most pleasing ^-^
And I swear, once I get myself straightened out, I'll be nice and drop a line in all your sparkly and lovely stories :)
