Oooh, Chinese goodies. Heck, I'd be happy with anything that's from overseas. ^^; It's so much fun seeing what constitutes favorite sweets in other countries. Scandinavia, for example, is really fond of licorice. ^^;; And from my experiences with the Japanese supermarket in Portland, Japan isn't too fond of sweet-sweets, but more of a mellow, semi-sweet type of candy. Interesting.
/geek ^^;

I've been rather busy- I had a trip to Bangkok, and then I got a new computer. =.=;;
I'm glad to hear that I'm alive to. :p/:D
As ot Chinese goodies... I can do better than Pocky. :) *winks*
I'll send you gummies as well- Pocky too, but something crunch-proof to send is a good idea. Do you have any particular pocky flavor that you like? Really, it's no problem.
In Hong Kong... hmm... Cantonese tend not to eat candy, persay. More like dim sum dessert, like mango pudding, flour buns with sweet/savory fillings, and so on. Koreans eat sticky cakes, or flavored/plain rice cakes. Their desserts are more chewy.

(Ooh, trip to Bangkok. Did you see
I'm more fond of strawberry pocky & koalas than the chocolate, oddly enough. ^^; Not sure why, I just like them better.
Sounds like people in Hong Kong are more like Japan than America when it comes to sweets. Heh. What are your favorites?

:) And the trip to Bangkok was awesome- splurged a lot and ate myself sick. Oddly enough, still lost weight. Sadly no, I didn't see grahpitesmudges - being a tourist meant that I was almost totally reliant on Bangkok taxis... *winces*
:D KOALAS! I like the chocolate and strawberry. ^__^ And strawberry pocky. My favourite sweets... would have to be chocolate. And See's Toffee-ettes. Truffles are loved, and I liked mints as well. I basically like crunchy chocolatey things. My dessert love of my life would have to be chocolate/vanilla icecream over a chocolate brownie.

Ack, taxis. x.x Evil things.
I adore koalas. I'm thinking I should mail-order them and save myself a trip to Portland. ^^;
Mmm, sounds like you have a fairly similar taste in sweets to me. Woot! We shall rule the worldz! ^_____^

The taxis were evil- the ones in HK are more expensive, but WAY professional. The ones in Bangkok tried to cheat us. >:(
And yes koalas are AWESOME! But I scarf snacks by the bagful, so I'm currently on a diet of abstinence. :p
The world would be nice, but right now I'm just setting my sights low- owning a continent or two will be enough. :D
By the way, saw that you liked Chinese red packets or something in an earlier post- I'll try to pack a curio or two.
Now I think I will have to send a package. ^__^

My few small experiences with taxis have left me very grateful for my car. *nod*
Hee. I just like foreign things. I have this awesome little.. uh... I think it's a good luck charm? It's red and has things that dangle. ^^; And a cat in a kimono, and other such cultural things. :) I also got sent a book from Finland that's half written in Finnish, and a book of fairytales from Iceland. ^____^ Whee!

Cars intimidate me... when I think about it... lots of things intimidate me. Like people. And teenage girls. >.<
The awesome little thing sounds cool. :D *is a sucker for dangly things*
And Finnish?? So very, very, cool.
I'm taking a course in Japanese- am still a beginner, though. :p I have a whole collection of koreign knickknacks.

This is my dangly thing. ^__^
Cars used to intimidate me, but I've been driving for ten years now, so they don't intimidate me anymore. ^^; Teenage girls I just want to stab with one of my knives. >.>;
I took two semesters of Japanese. One day I'll go back to learn more, once I can afford it again. ^^
(Korean? Do you speak Korean too? Have you read Demon Diary / Diary of a Demon King?)

:) I've heard of Demon Diary, but never actually read. I know a little Korean, but I'm fluent. >.< *blushes* I'm getting around to learning it. But I want to learn French as well this year, so it will take a little time. Japanese is a lovely language... but it's so POLITE. =.=;; Learning different word forms for everything is so... um... well I'm glad I just say "Thanks" in English.
Teenage girls are stupid in general. As a teenager I tended to listen to classical music and read books though. :p Was promptly labeled a dork.

I love Demon Diary, but because it's Korean and not Japanese, I can't research it very well. :( Very frustrating. Japanese things I like, I can look on Yahoo!Japan for posters and books and things. But I don't even know if Korea has an auction site...
Heh, so if Japanese is so different, how does one speak politely in Chinese?
I was a bookworm, which is about as bad as a dork. I spent a lot of time in the library. ^^;

... I have no idea either. ^__^;; I go to Korea just to visit my grandparents you see; they're very very old now and I try to visit them as often as possible.
Umm... Chinese is also kinda hard... since there isn't an alphabet exactly. It's basically just memorizing a lot of different characters.
*squees and hugs fellow bookworm* I had a private mini-library when I was 13-14 or so... I still remember bowing down before my Shrine Of Tolkien (which I still have, incidentally).

Your grandparents are in Korea? Cool. o.o
So, are there different characters for polite words, or is that done in a different way? *curious*
*lmao* Oh, when I moved (twice) I had more boxes of books than I had of clothes. It was funny. Every time, I had to give away books, and I still had more books than anything else!

In Japanese, there are several different ways to say everything.
Such, "desu" becomes "de gozaimasu", when extra politeness is wanted/needed.
Then different characters are needed to form the words. Unlike Chinese though, Japanese have an alphabet. In fact they have SEVERAL. =.=;;
In Chinese there is much less.. in fact the only one I can think of is:
mmm goi (phonetic Cantonese)/ bu gai (phonetic Putonghua) is "thank you" when someone helps you (means "you shouldn't have"). do ze (p. Cantonese)/ duo xie (p. PTH) is when someone gives you something (means "many thanks"). :)And they have totally different characters.
Books are more important than clothes. In fact if I had to choose between Tolkien and Gucci... I would choose Gucci, sell it off, and use the money to get Tolkien. :D
no subject
Huh. So what's Putonghua? o.o; Do they still use Mandarin, or is it all Cantonese now?
I wasn't impressed with Tolkien, myself. The man is an incredible worldbuilder, but his actual writing is very dry. x.x I have a lot of Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey, and Piers Anthony books. :)

PTH is the chinese way of saying Mandarin. ^__^ Sorry, am way too used to calling it PTH. Hong Kong is very very close to Canton province, and most of the people use Cantonese (is the biggest dialect, and older than PTH). In the mainland PTH is used most, but here in the HK Special Administrative Region (HKSAR for short), Cantonese is used the most, although many people know at least a little English.
I was very impressed with Tolkien myself- for me, his style of writing is actually very appealing. He's still my favourite author of all time bar none. Ah well, to each their own. :)
