Pure, undiluted power that had been offered to him when he had most needed it. It had given him the strength to rise beyond what he had been intended to be - a feeding slave, to be discarded in a decade or two - and transformed him into what he was today.

He owed Giuliano a lot. And Giuliano was there to collect.

Or perhaps Giuliano was simply there. With him, you could never tell.

"You still owe me an explanation," he grumbled as he let go of those soft lips, suddenly quite aware he’d just kissed someone in front of his team, and that he was never going to live this down. He was supposed to be the cool, composed, fearless leader, and Giuliano had gone ahead and ruined that image in all of five seconds. But then again, the older vampire had always had a knack for the spectacular.
