Job Stuffies

So. I work at a Home Improvement store called Jerry's. It's family owned and operated, and only has two facilities. ^^ Spent three days training at the smaller store in the next town over (about a 15 min drive - we have small towns) and then headed over to mine to start my first Official day today. Woot!
So, I am a stocker in the Lighting department, meaning lots and lots of lightbulbs. (Woo, breakables...) Up and down and up and down and up and down the ladder. Hee. ^.^ Carrying glass. >.> Me. <.< Yeah, I dun get it either, but at least I didn't break anything today. ^.^
Everyone is super friendly. And I mean that. For the last 2 hours of our orientation they pitched us out on the floor with 'trainee' aprons on to direct customers around. I swear every single employee on that side of the building came up to say hi and welcome and introduce themselves. o.O;; And the customers are almost as cheerful. It's a whole different world. o.o;
I'm also convinced that one of the hiring qualifications is appearance, because somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of the people working there are zomgyummy cute. Including my supervisor. Who has a twin brother. Who also works in the store. x.x Do you have any idea how hard it is to think clean thoughts around him?
This company is so much of an improvement over Wal-Mart I wouldn't even know where to start gushing. Everything is better. Including the break room. Wally's had a single refrigerator for 300-400 employees to put their lunches in. Jerry's has three coolers, deeper than your average fridge, for 250-300 people. The staff areas are upstairs, with great big windows, and carpeted except for the floors and lunch room. They're clean, organized, and everyone seems genuinely happy to work there.
I really really really love this company.

Date: 2007-06-22 02:14 am (UTC)And twins? Mmm. (By default, twins are always sexy or cute. Twins run in my family)
Sounds awesome - is awesome. And family owned? Wow. Where I live, everything is... well, huge. Nothing family owned exists here. At least, to my knowledge.
Hope you don't break anything - really. (I would have already...)It's cool you got a job you like/love. Happy for you!

Date: 2007-06-22 03:15 am (UTC)Yup, family owned. Jerry Orem started it back in the early 60s, and his son now oversees it, though Jerry is still alive. ^.^

Date: 2007-06-22 10:59 pm (UTC)How sexy.
And even my grandmother is a twin - creepy, yeah, but they were IDENTICAL, completely, and beautiful when they were young. Like angels - and now (they're the crazy granny type) they use the same passsport. They send it back and forth and no one's the wiser.
(sighs) Too lazy to get two separate ones.
But sexy twins - Mmmm.

Date: 2007-06-22 02:15 am (UTC)Can I work there too? *_*If everyone's that friendly just when you start out, it's certainly a good beginning. Work atmosphere in those situations is everything, and personally, I think the customers pick up on it too. *hearts* I'm so happy for you. *twirls you about* ^_^(no subject)

Date: 2007-06-22 03:46 am (UTC)My family has run our business for about 40 years (my Grandpa founded it). We try to do right by all our employees. The older employees are nearly family by now.

Date: 2007-06-22 04:50 pm (UTC)"Zomgyummy" people are a really good one, and "genuinely happy to work there" people another one: now the two combinated is nearly as great as one of your story! ^_^
I hope the streak (?) of unbreaking lightbulbs days will go on, as well as the one of unbreaking leg/arm/neck and so one (ladders are powerful weapons!)

Date: 2007-06-23 08:43 pm (UTC)Though hey, now if you do any fix-it-up projects, you have handy access and possibly a discount?
::grin:: And twins? Heh. ^____^ I think I'm doomed forever when it comes to twins, which is kind of bad because one of my friends is marrying one-half of a twinset and another is dating the other half of that twinset. ^__^;;
