I though that line was because he wants to protect his mother, so he can't go back because they will hurt her if he does.She was killed ,no?After a some time a soul comes back to Earth so why isn't he looking for her?

But if they killed his mother didn't he at least teach them a little.Just to scare them a little?Was he present when she was killed?
